Communication and Miscommunication

We live in a world of “fake news” and media manipulation. It is commonplace to see stories and messages spun, skewed, and unsupported. But what happens when one is genuinely trying to communicate a message? What can go wrong? The answer is – a lot.

Join IABC Lynchburg on Thursday, May 23 for a discussion that will outline effective written and verbal communication and the barriers that can impede it. Solutions for effective communication will also be suggested.

Nancy Hubbard is Dean of the University of Lynchburg’s College of Business and a Professor of Management. Previously she worked both at Goucher College in Baltimore, MD and the University of Oxford’s Green Templeton College and Saïd Business School. She is an International Professor at both Aix-Marseilles University in France and SKOLKOVO, the Moscow School of Management in Russia.

Nancy has consulted throughout the world on mergers and acquisitions with both Booz, Allen & Hamilton and KPMG as well as independently working in 30 countries on every continent except Antarctica. She has worked on transactions ranging in size from $35 million to $35 billion and has worked with Ford Motor Company, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Chartered Bank, Reed Elsevier, Rosatom, Old Mutual, DeBeers, and Westland Helicopters.

Nancy holds a BSc in Business Administration from Georgetown University and an MSc in Management in Human Resources and a Doctorate in Management both from the University of Oxford.
